Late for Lost

My favorite con man - Josh Holloway - Lost Ok, so I waited until the very last minute to start watching Lost, but I’m slow that way sometimes. Besides, I like it better when I don’t have to wait a week to see what happens next. And with this show, I’d lose my ever-lovin’ MIND if I had to wait that long!

To be honest, I don’t watch much prime time television. The last television show I got interested in was House. And it just drove me crazy having to wait a week, or possibly a month or more between episodes, so I stopped watching it, (though I do sometimes catch-up on it whenever Bravo has one of its House marathons). Yes, I know. Patience is a virtue…yadda, yadda, yadda. I’d just rather wait until there are at least two or three seasons of a show, so I can watch episodes at Hulu at my own leisure.  That way, if I want to stay up till 5am watching Lost episodes, (which I did last night), then I can. Remember the “good ole days” when we were forced to wait? Wasn’t that fun? Thank the gods for the interwebs, (and websites like Hulu).

If you’re like me and never watched Lost, you should go to Hulu and give it a go. It is one of those shows where you really get to know the characters. You get glimpses into each one’s past, and then watch how they evolve and adapt to life on the island. Some of them change drastically over time. It’s fascinating.

As you probably guessed, my favorite character is that of Sawyer, (played by Josh Holloway, pictured above). Yeah, he’s a bad boy, but what can I say? Maybe it’s because he’s Southern, like me, and I can relate to that aspect of him. I dunno. There’s just something about him I like. Remember, though, at present, I am only a couple of episodes into season 2, so my feelings could change later on. We’ll just have to wait and see. Who is your favorite Lost character and why?

If you like action and suspense, Lost is definitely the show for you. It seems something terrible happens to one of the characters in each episode. It never, ever gets boring. In fact, you will probably need to make sure you’ve taken your blood pressure meds before watching. I am always “pumped” from start to finish. So…um…be careful if you have issues there. Ha! No, I’m just kidding (maybe). I’ve never heard of anyone having a heart attack or stroking out while watching Lost, (though, I guess it could  have happened…I dunno).

Since I’m only a few seasons in, last night, I thought I may have made a huge mistake by watching the Lost series finale, because I was totally LOST! But, then I found out afterwards (via Twitter) that even people who had watched the entire 6 seasons all the way through were asking, “WTF?” So I don’t feel like I ruined it for myself. Why did I watch it? Because I knew there would be spoilers all over the internet, TV, etc. for the next month (or three) and I’d never be able to escape it. So, I watched it with my husband, Charlie, who, by the way, had never seen a single episode! Afterwards, he posted this about it on his Facebook wall:

I’m officially lost! Probably, shouldn’t have picked the series finale as a starting place! LoL, I’ve decided I’m seriously going to watch the show in reverse! Instead of putting pieces together, I’m going to scatter them about!

LOL! Bless his heart.

In conclusion, I would like to say that when I’m done with Lost, I’ll be starting on Roswell, then Fringe, and then Carnivale. If you have any suggestions for me, please leave your feedback in the comments section below. I’d love to hear what you’re watching!

Are They Telling Us the Truth About the Gulf Oil Spill?

Oil Spill

Oil clings to reeds on the bank of the breakwater in the mouth of the Mississippi River where it meets the Gulf of Mexico in Louisiana. Sean Gardner/Greenpeace/MCT

I’m really getting worried about the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. I have very little trust in the powers that be in the first place, and I have been doing my own research into this and I feel that we are not being told everything about it. Not even close. I’m not going to get into it much today, as we have graduation festivities coming up this evening, but one thing I wanted to mention is from this article from The New York Times that states:

BP has resisted entreaties from scientists that they be allowed to use sophisticated instruments at the ocean floor that would give a far more accurate picture of how much oil is really gushing from the well.

“The answer is no to that,” a BP spokesman, Tom Mueller, said on Saturday. “We’re not going to take any extra efforts now to calculate flow there at this point. It’s not relevant to the response effort, and it might even detract from the response effort.”

Well, why not, Mr. BP Spokesman? That just seems a little fishy to me, and I believe they are trying to hide something. But what? And why? I will be doing much more research on this and reporting my findings here, so stay tuned.

Second Life Is Awesome!

Magdalena Skizm at Caledon

For years, my daughter has been a member of a few of the virtual worlds out there, including IMVU; There.com, (which recently closed, much to her chagrin); and Second Life. She has hounded me for years to try them, but unfortunately, my old computer couldn’t handle the software.

That was then…this is now. I have a new computer with better hardware and she finally talked me into becoming a member of Second Life about 2 weeks ago, and I have been so hooked on it, I can barely think of anything else! I even DREAM ABOUT IT! Aaaahhh! But I am having so much FUN!

I’m still trying to learn the basics, but each day I learn a little more and pretty soon, I think I’ll be ready to do some heavy-duty role playing.

It has been ages since my days of role playing, (mainly Dungeons & Dragons), and things have really come a long way. Oh how I wish we’d had something like Second Life to use during our campaigns back then. It would have been so cool.

If you are on Second Life and would like to hang out with me, my avatar’s name is Magdalena Skizm. Would be so nice to have someone to explore with until I can get the hang of things, so…ADD ME PLEASE!

What is something you wish you had learned to do earlier in life?

When I was a kid, I really loved pianos, mainly because my family owned a piano store, and my Nana could really tickle the ivories. I always wanted to take lessons, but even though my Nana taught piano since before I was born, she could never find the time to teach me – so I never really learned.

Throughout my life, I have learned to pick out a song or two by ear, but I’m really not that good at it. I can read music, but verrrrrry slooooowly, so that doesn’t work either, unless I just memorize it.

The summer I turned 14 years old, I went to stay with my aunt for a few weeks at a Christian camp in Linden, Tennessee, (Camp Linden). While I was there, a very nice boy taught me to play Beethoven’s Für Elise – and I can still remember how to play most of it. But I don’t get to practice much, as I don’t even have so much as a small keyboard anymore.

My dream is to someday have a Steinway grand piano, like the one pictured above. My Nana had one and it sounded so beautiful when she played it. I doubt I’ll ever be able to afford such a luxury, and even if I did, where would I put it?

So, I ask you…

A.D. – An Animated Zombie Movie! Woohoo! [TEASER]

Ok, you guys know me…I freakin’ LOVE zombie movies, and this one looks pretty cool. I’ve never seen an animated one. It’s called “A.D.” and it looks very promising.

Here’s a little taste of it:

What? Animated Zombies…? Hell yes! After years of saturating the marketplace with family-friendly animated fare, “A.D.” just might be the genre-busting shot in the arm Hollywood needs. Written by Haylar Garcia and Directed by Ben Hibon of “Codehunters” fame, the trailer contains some of the most kick-ass, stylized animation in years. Currently, the project is in search of a studio. For the sake of both horror and animation fans alike, let’s hope “A.D.” finds a zombie-friendly home quick.

Here’s an interview with the creative team behind A.D.
